Summer Dining Al Fresco in Torcello at Osteria al Ponte del Diavolo
Welcome summer!
Three months of sunshine and warm weather, when the temperature in the lagoon can get so hot that it becomes necessary to seek refuge under the shade and close to a little bit of green, two things you will find at Osteria al Ponte del Diavolo.
In this period, in addition to lunch time, we also open for dinner during the weekends and the menu revolves around seasonal produce like tomatoes, nightshades and, of course, seafood from the Adriatic.
We like to reinterpret traditional Italian recipes and give them our own twist, making them more in tune with the fresh flavors of the lagoon and playing with different herbs.
An example is our squid in puttanesca style, where we use raw squid cut like tagliatelle, served on top of this exquisite tomato and anchovy sauce and garnish it with herbs.
And also our seafood salad like in 1981, inspired by the traditional mixed boiled fish starter of old style Venetian restaurants, featuring mantis shrimp, clams, mussels, squid eggs and prawns or our fried sole with artichokes and lemon zest, a lighter and fresher version of the 'scartoccio' (fried fish typically served in a brown paper cone).
Starters only open the way to richer mains, with different types of artisanal pasta and risottos. Creamy sauces create contrast with raw fish or scampi, like in our linguini with red Sicilian prawn tartare, bisque and wild rocket salad, while squid gives its best offering its ink to envelope spaghetti topped with mullet roe. Those who love super moist and creamy textures that melt in the mouth might also consider opting for our scampi and tomato risotto.
Keep space for the second course and desserts too. Among the second courses, a new revisitation is our sea-bass Parmigiana with aubergines, fresh tomato cream and ricotta. These are just some of our dishes, only to give you an idea. Meat and cured meats lovers won't be disappointed either, as we have a selected culatello and some special meat dishes on the menu; and those with a sweet tooth will be happy to know that our pastry chef Daniel, who also makes our renowned bread buns, is very talented and dedicated to crafting the most delicious and beautiful desserts, paying attention to creativity and tradition at the same time and not forgetting desserts loved by all like our Tiramisu.
We hope we have made you curious and are ready to welcome you under the shade of our terrazza overlooking the garden. Be ready to relax and detach from the rest of the world for a couple of hours.
