Experiencing Torcello and Dining at Osteria al Ponte del Diavolo

Visiting Torcello is always a magical experience. The island is where the first settler of the Venetian lagoon arrived, and where the magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta still stands today.

The island is a mixture of wilderness and history, with fields where artichokes, herbs, poppies and elderflower grow in different seasons. Offering unique views of marshlands and water, it is a place where time seems to have stopped and silence reigns.

Only less than 15 people live as residents on the island throughout the year, a constant presence is the local rooster, who likes to sign not only in the early morning. A visit is recommended to all those who wish to discover a different type of Venice, more ancestral. A walk around the fields and vines must be followed by a visit to the Cathedral so richly described by John Ruskin in his 'Stones of Venice'. Other experiences are the Local Museum and the Andrich House Museum .

After your wanderings, you can treat yourself to an al fresco lunch at our restaurant Osteria al Ponte del Diavolo, where we serve locally sourced seasonal ingredients. The restaurant is located in a former villa and the private garden has a central pagoda and a view of the island's Tower Bell and is ideal also for private events and celebrations.

Our menu changes with the seasons and product availability. It is largely based on fish and greens, but we also cater for vegetarians and meat lovers. Now that spring has taken off, we propose our renowned purple artichokes and other greens like asparagus -white and green- and wild herbs like agretti.

Among the fish, right now it is 'moeche' season, the soft shelled crabs, and of course we have a variety of mollusks and crustacean from the Adriatic, as well as fillets like sea-bass, mullet, eel and more.

As for the wine, we have carefully selected a wine list and will be happy to provide you with advice if needed.
