Welcoming Autumn in Torcello: New Seasonal Menu at Osteria al Ponte del Diavolo

Welcoming Autumn in Torcello

It's incredible how time flies. In less than a week the Venetian lagoon has experienced a drop in temperature of about 10 degrees and, no matter how much we love summer, we won't deny that this weather is probably the best, ideal to enjoy a nice lunch outdoor and letting the sun kiss our cheeks.

Autumn has arrived and right now the leaves are starting to change color and are in between green and yellow. The sky is bright but clear, with a nice fresh air that allows to see the movement of the clouds. Our garden is beautiful, roses are still blooming and the grass and the bushes are of an intenser green. The island of Torcello in general is probably at its peak, from early September to mid November the light is particularly magical and there are less people visiting, therefore the experience becomes truly special.

As for our restaurant, of course we have adapted our menu to the seasonal changes and are featuring produce like black truffle, pumpkin, Gerusalm artichokes, purple potatoes and mushrooms. As always, all the ingredients are km0 and are provided for by small local farms and fishmongers. We enjoyed experimenting new ways to present the traditional "Mari e Monti" (Seas and Mountains) dishes and we are delighted that so far the feedback has been very positive.

Among our menu novelties, as starters we offer toasted scallops with porcini mushrooms, a soft potato cream, served with baby calamari and black truffle, and a Jerusalem artichoke fondant with savory eggnog and purple potato chips. The fig trees on Torcello are still delivering lots of fruits, thus we also have a beef carpaccio, seasoned ricotta and caramelized figs.

As main courses, the ones that clients are particularly fond of are the homemade plins (a type of pasta) stuffed with ricotta, prawns and porcini mushrooms in two textures, as well as the sea-bass Parmigiana with finferli mushrooms and pumpkin chips. Of course we feature more dishes, which you can see on our menu, but we won't go through it all here!

We will end by saying to all the sweet-tooths out there that our pastry chef has taken great care in crafting the new desserts, with a special pavlova with mascarpone cream and lots of fresh and dried fruit, craquelin puffs with pistachio cream and red fruits and, for those who think that dessert is not dessert if it doesn't have chocolate, a delicious bavarois with cookies and chocolate sauce.
